RACING RULES

 

  • Modified Wheel Horse Racing Rules 2026

  • Any make or model of lawn tractor may be used

  • Racer must resemble a lawn tractor

  • Limit on engines, 9.0 horse power engine block

  • All racing engines must run on gasoline (NO ALCHOL)

  • Engine must be mounted in front of driver

  • All engines must have mufflers (NO EXCEPTIONS)

  • Seat can be moved 6" forward or backwards from center of rear axle

  • Driver must set factory trans axle

  • Any type of frame (Pipe, Square, Angle)

  • All tractors must have a full belt/ chain guard

  • All edges must be ground smooth

  • Each racer will be safety inspected

  • All nuts, bolts and or fasteners must be checked by driver or crew regularly before each race

  • Maximum width of racer, no more than 38"

  • Maximum wheelbase of racer is 44" from the center of the front wheel bearing to center of rear axle

  • Strong rear bumper with a maximum of 1 1/2" clearance between the tire and rear bumper

  • Rear bumper height must be 10" from the ground to the center of the bumper and must be 4" or more in height

  • No front bumpers or grill protectors. Front edge of the hood must not extend past the center line of the front tires

  • All racers must have a bearing on the right front, Bearing on the left is optional

  • Side guards between front and rear wheels is required, Clearance between guards and tires must be about 1 1/2" to prevent any tire getting between tire and guard

  • Side guards must be a minimum of 7 tall (Not measured from the ground)

  • Some type of flooring must be used to prevent drivers feet from getting under tractor. Must be the same width/ length of side guards

  • Some type of gas pedal, brake pedal and clutch must be used

  • Brakes must be a disk type system and approved by stopping standards of the officials

  • Tires must say 11" tall on the sidewalls minimum on the front. Rear tire Cannot be a HOOSIER or AMERICAN RACERS and Must have a minimum of 2/32 tread

  • Tube may be installed in the tires

  • Bushings may be replaced with bearings

  • A tether switch must be used and tested before racing

  • Pulleys, belts and chains can be used

  • Weight can be added if needed but, must securely fastened

  • An approved racing helmet, neck roll, gloves and eye protection must be worn while driving on the racing surface

  • All racers must have visible numbers

  • All new members, drivers, officials and participants must fill out release forms before tractor enters the racetrack for the first time (This will be done before every race)

  • To qualify as a driver, you must have had previous racing experience and or 18 years of age or older. You will be tested on skill and reflexes for our type of racing. You must be certified by our officers or safety officials.

  • Driver fee for each race day is $10.00
     

 

Race Format

 

  • 1st heat 20 laps half of the field

  • 2nd heat 20 laps half of the field

  • Semi - feature 30 laps all racers draw backwards

  • Feature race is 50 laps

  • May change as needed for race time allotted

  • Must start in line until green flag

  • All points are credited to the driver

 

Points Format

 

  • Heats - 10 points to win and then they drop by 1 point increments

  • Draw - 20 points to win and then they drop by 1 point increments

  • Semi Feature - 30 points to win and they they drop by 2 point increments

  • Feature - 50 or 70 points to win and then they drop by 2 point increments

  • The least amount of points a driver will get if they start the semi - feature is 2 points, the feature is 5 points

  • If there is a tie in points, the outcome will be determined by the previous wins of the drivers in the current season

  • A driver is allowed to run a loaner racer. They must start at the rear of all races, including championships

  • Red Flag Stops: The racers that caused the race to stop will need to go to the tail of the lead lap (NO EXCEPTIONS)

  • After a red flag stop, all lapped drivers will go behind the lead lap drivers

  • All drivers that have been lapped many times must give lead drivers room to run safely

  • It a racer has a mechanical breakdown during a race, they should go to the center of the track and stay on the racer. The race should be stopped to get the racer off of the track safely if needed.

  • Drivers cannot go through the center of the track to advance their position

  • Middle of the track racing is not allowed, used inside lane or outside lane

  • If the racer's left side wheels come off the track continuously you will be black flagged

  • No pushing, bumping or reckless driving will be tolerated

  • No one is to drive a racer from the track / pit area at a high rate of speed for any reason

  • Alcohol abuse will not be tolerated. Driver's are not allowed to drink alcohol until they are done racing for the day

  • Any disorderly conduct, you will be asked to leave

  • Anyone not following the safety rules, by-laws, or policies will be asked to leave

  • Any loud arguing will not be allowed or tolerated
